Who do we serve?

 A facility of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health that offers a wide range of psychiatric services to adults, children, adolescents and their families in Charleston and Dorchester Counties.

Services primarily focus on three major groups:  

  ·        Adults with serious and persistent mental illness.

  ·        Persons with major psychiatric emergencies.

  ·        Children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbance.

 Positions listed in the Jobs Available Bulletin are Permanent Full Time Positions unless otherwise indicated.

 

Do I have to submit a separate application/resume for each position
 I apply for?
 
No.  Your application/resume will remain active for six months for employment purposes from the date you filed it.  It is advised that if you are interested in any position that you contact the Human Resources Office to ensure that your resume is sent to the proper person.
How do I Apply?  

Applicants must have the stated minimum education and experience or an acceptable equivalent to qualify for listed positions and to receive consideration. Priority will normally be given to candidates who meet the Department of Mental Health Preferred Education, Training and Experience qualifications. Applications submitted by mail must be postmarked on or before the closing date and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m. in the Human Resource Services department. Applications/Resumes can be faxed to (843) 852-3640.

Current DMH employees applying for a position should submit a Request for Consideration Form HRS-93, along with a current application or resume as indicated above, to the Human Resource Services office for consideration.

 

Requirements

Mental Health Counselor: A master’s degree in guidance, counseling, psychology, social work or the social sciences.  Some positions may require specific licensure or eligibility for licensure in the field of psychology or social work.  Prefer experience in a psychiatric clinical setting.

 

Clinical Counselor: A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in counseling and/or behavior modification program (s).

 

Registered Nurse: Agency Additional Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in nursing and two (2) years experience; or a three (3) year diploma and two (2) years experience; or an associate degree in nursing and two (2) years experience as a registered nurse, one (1) of which must have been in a community mental health program. Licensed as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing.

 

Administrative Specialist Positions: A high school diploma and two years of clerical experience; or an associate degree in secretarial science or other related field; or three years of clerical experience.  Must possess knowledge of grammatical rules and clerical formats.  Ability to establish and maintain files; ability to collect; compile and assemble information; ability to work effectively general public as well as mental health professionals.   May have to type 35 WPM.

How will I be notified if selected?

Once you have submitted a resume/application.  The Human Resources Department reviews it.   If selected for an interview the interviewing supervisor will notify the applicant.
